The Tragedy of HIV/AIDS on the Orphans of Malawi

HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death in Sub-Saharan Africa, with an estimated 23.8 million people living with the disease, over two thirds of the global total.

There are over 1.1 million people living with HIV in Malawi. Of these, 180,000 are children aged 0-14 and there are 770,000 orphans across the country due to AIDS.

Orphans and vulnerable children have been left destitute or without proper care and support. This has left them at risk of abuse and exploitation ultimately bringing them into the vicious HIV and poverty cycle.
